Apple patent battles, Infineon acquisition speculation

Apple has settled one patent lawuit, been hit by another even as industry watchers ask if Apple has a plan to completely dominate the mobile industry through purchase of key component manufacturer, Infineon. The latter speculation's interesting. Apple's plan to dominate the mobile market marries quite nicely with its increased focus on acquisitions, and even should the ARM/Apple rumors be nothing but hot air, then there's some milage left in an Infineon purchase, even as AAPL demand locks others out from over-stretched component supply.Rumors that Intel may acquire Infineon’s wireless chip business to make a run at the smartphone market emerged this week. However, with Infineon being Apple’s sole supplier for core chips used to handle voice and data on an iPhone, will Cupertino field a deal? More on this here. Meanwhile battles in the ever busy patent pool continue with Apple settlng one suit filed by MInerva Technologies in Jan 2008. That suit revolved around patents in mobile media tech.Though just when Apple legal breathed its sigh of relief and turned around to focus on acquisitions, in came the long-expected suit from Isreali firm, Emblaxe which says the HTTP LIfe Streaming Standard used in most AAPL products infringes patents held by the Israeli firm. Emblze, incidentally, is behind a touch-enabled mobile device described as an iPhone-killer that was introduced in 2009. (Illustrated).
